How this publication is produced
The production system stated plainly: what is automated, what the machine may never do, and where the human sits.
The Value Forge is produced by an automated intelligence pipeline operating under a published constraint system, with a human editor accountable for everything you read.
What is automated
Evidence surveillance, weekly synthesis, and translation into the articles on this site are performed by large-language-model routines. They run on a fixed weekly and monthly cadence. The routines do not have editorial freedom: they operate under a versioned constraint contract that governs what may be claimed, how evidence must be labelled, and what must be dropped.
What the machine may never do
The constraint contract’s invariants are absolute. The system may not strengthen or soften a claim’s epistemic weight; may not alter an evidence label, confidence level, or finding status; may not remove a stated limitation, open question, or contrary signal; may not alter a study design or population scope; and may not publish an evidence claim you cannot reach — every referenced study, guidance document, or dataset must appear in the article’s reference list with verifiable identifiers, or the claim is removed. Where the rules cannot all be satisfied for an item, the system publishes nothing for that item. A missing entry is acceptable; a distorted one is not.
Where the human sits
The editor authors and versions the constraint contract, audits outputs against sources, designates which patterns carry value-added-time significance, writes the signed editorial lane, and owns corrections. The monthly flagship receives a human read. The editor is responsible for everything published here, including the automated portions.
Independence, funding, and conflicts of interest
This publication is not-for-profit and generates no income. There are no subscriptions, no advertising, no sponsorship, no affiliate arrangements, no paid placements, and nothing for sale. No money changes hands in either direction: The Value Forge takes no funding from, and makes no payment to, any organisation or individual it cites or discusses.
It makes no recommendations. The Value Forge synthesises published evidence and names the gap between evidence and practice. It does not provide clinical advice, does not advise on the care of any individual patient, does not endorse or rank products, suppliers, or providers, and does not advise on commissioning, procurement, or investment decisions. Nothing published here constitutes clinical, professional, or financial advice, and nothing here should substitute for the judgement of a clinician with the patient in front of them.
Its method is open. The constraint contract governing the automated pipeline, the pattern register with its full revision history, the corrections record, and — at launch — the complete source and build history of this site are public. Anyone can inspect how every artefact was produced and check every claim against its cited source.
It is entirely decoupled from the editor’s employment. The editor works in NHS management. The Value Forge is produced entirely in the editor’s own time, using only personal resources and publicly available sources. It draws on no material from the editor’s employment: no internal data, no internal documents, no patient information, no procurement-sensitive material, and no confidential information of any kind. The employer has no sight of, no influence over, and no involvement in this publication, and nothing published here represents the views of any NHS organisation. No local NHS organisation is named or identifiable in the publication’s synthesised output — by rule, not by accident: the constraint contract strips local identifiers as a hard invariant, and the publication’s evidence base is national and international published material only.
The perspective is declared, not hidden. The editorial lens — value-added time, judged from the patient’s side of the encounter — is a stated commitment, described on the method pages. A publication with a declared perspective and published evidence rules is not a neutral aggregator, and does not pretend to be. What the perspective is never permitted to do is bend the evidence: the constraint contract’s invariants — no strengthened claims, no altered labels, no removed caveats, no unreachable citations — apply identically wherever the analysis lands, including where it lands against the editor’s expectations.
Editor: The Value Forge is edited anonymously at this time. This is a deliberate decision, made to keep the publication fully separate from the editor’s NHS employment while it establishes its record, and it is kept under review. Accountability here does not rest on a name: it rests on the published constraint system, the versioned pattern register that records what held up and what did not, the public corrections route, and the open revision history. Judge the publication by whether those mechanisms hold.
Why we tell you this
Disclosure is not a caveat; it is the method. This publication’s claim on your trust is not a masthead of names — it is a constraint system you can read, a register that records what held up and what did not, and a correction route you can use. The full constraint contract and this site’s complete revision history are public.
Corrections
Errors, once verified, are corrected in the article with a dated note, recorded on the corrections page, and — where a pattern is affected — entered in the pattern register’s history. To challenge a finding, use the feedback route.
